The US Open receives some of the best TV Coverage of any sporting event. The golf channel is there the entire week to catch player interviews. It's previewed on ESPN and other sports shows around the world. It even makes news headlines where other tournaments may not. Unfortunately for most of us, we're at work on Thursday and Friday so the TV coverage doesn't do us any good... except for those who take extended lunches.
Fortunately the U.S. Open (actually it's the USGA) has stepped up their game in helping people follow along. Whether you're at work or just on the go, here are a few ways you can follow the US Open.
1. Mobile App: In my opinion, this is the best way to follow along. The USGA has launched a U.S. Open mobile app so you can follow along on your smartphone or tablet. It's free and provides live streaming coverage as well as news and a leaderboard. Even if you're near your TV, you should consider having this by your side, it's that good. ESPN also offers coverage through their "Watch ESPN" mobile app but your service provider must be part of it.
2. Social Media: Social media has made it possible for us to follow anything in real time. Unlike the app you can't watch but you'll get all the news as quickly as people can type. Follow the US Open on Twitter (@USOpengolf) or catch them on Facebook. If you're only interested in images, the USGA is on Instagram (@usga1894) and will show images throughout the day. If you want to be a part of the conversation, use the hashtag #USOpen on Twitter and see what everyone is talking about.
3. Website: If your old fashion, you can always follow along in your browser by visiting the official U.S. Open website or via PGATour.com. The US Open website allows you to watch videos as well as live streaming action of the event. It's better than nothing and easy to hide when your boss comes walking by your cubicle.
Isn't technology great? As I sit at my desk this week I'll have the US Open streaming the background... Sometimes it's good to be your own boss.
