Rory McIlroy (@McIlroyRory) held off a final round charge by Tiger Woods (@TigerWoods) to win the 2012 Honda Classic on Sunday. McIlroy made one birdie and a bogey on his final nine holes to earn his first PGA Tour win of the season and take over the top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings.
McIlroy, who made his 2012 PGA Tour debut last week, was playing in his first stroke play event of the season. He made 17 birdies and just 5 bogies to finish at 12-under, two strokes better than Tiger Woods and Tom Gillis who both finished at -10.
It was McIlroy's first win since he blew away the field at the U.S. Open at Congressional Country Club in June. He earned $1,026,000, 500 FedEx Cup points for the victory and will be the top ranked player at the World Golf Championships- Cadillac Championship next week at Doral.
Tiger Woods Shoots 62
Tiger Woods shot a 62 on Sunday, marking the lowest final round of his career. He started the day nine strokes behind the leader and when he made is eagle putt on the 18th, was just one stroke back. His bogey free round included four birdies and two eagles on the 3rd and 18th holes.
It's Tiger's first top 10 finish of the 2012 season and his first time finishing in the top 5 since the 2011 Masters where he tied for 4th. Shortly after McIlroy won, Tiger tweeted:
Congrats to @mcilroyrory on getting to no 1. Thanks to PB fans for all the love this week.

Top 10 Notables
All eyes may have been on McIlroy and Woods but some of the best biggest names in golf also earned top 10 finishes this week. Here are some of the notables:
4. Lee Westwood
T5. Charl Schwartzel
T5. Justin Rose
T9. Graeme McDowell
Next week the PGA Tour will be in Puerto Rico for the Puerto Rico Open while the World Golf Championships- Cadillac Championship will be held at the TPC Blue Monster at Doral. Kyle Stanley is the defending champion in Puerto Rico and Nick Watney will try to defend his title at Doral.

Sunday was the first bit of golf that I have watched all season. I was impressed with Tiger's play especially his approach on 18 and then to finish with that putt for eagle. Sure looked a lot easier sitting in front of the TV rather than how he described it. More impressive was watching a Mcllory finish strong, knowing Tiger was right behind him and win the Honda Classic. He played the Bear Trap smart and with confidence, looking like the World's number 1 ranked golfer.

Also impressive is Tiger's move up the World Golf Rankings. Once in the 50's he is now at 16 and showing all the signs of being in the top 10 by the end of the year. I'm a Phil guy but I would still ike to see Tiger get back to #1. It would be a great sports story.
