One of the most noticeable changes in golf apparel is the shoes. As someone who considers himself a traditionalist, I’ve ignored the change in footwear and stayed true to my “traditional” golf shoes. Earlier this year I made the change from my FootJoys to the very comfortable AdiPURE golf shoes by Adidas and I'm a huge fan.
A couple of months ago I was introduced to a new brand of golf shoe, Kikkor. A Vancouver based company, the entire line of golf “shoes” looked like various kinds of sneakers. I noticed a couple of pairs that looked like something I would wear if I was skateboarding or going for a jog.
For some reason these golf sneakers stuck in my mind and I went on Twitter to see what people were saying about Kikkor Golf Shoes and was pleasantly surprised. The Golf Chick was tweeting pictures of her new Kikkor golf shoes and raving about how comfortable they were. With her recommendation, I decided to pursue the Kikkor brand even further.
It didn’t take long before I was on the Kikkor website looking at shoes to would buy and write about. Not expecting much out of it, I was surprised by their selection of shoes and decided to go with the Retro Breathe in Lunar Suede (apparently that’s a color). I didn’t really know what to expect when they arrived but from the moment I opened the box, I was impressed.
What Makes Kikkor Golf Shoes Great
I’ll start with what’s most important to me, comfort. If all golf sneakers are made this comfortable, golf shoes are in trouble. The moment I took them out of the box and put them on my feet, I could tell I found a comfortable golf sneaker and after walking several rounds in my Kikkor Golf Sneakers, I can proudly report they are extremely comfortable. With the exception of the first time I wore them I felt never felt any discomfort at any point during any round. It was a refreshing change from running to my car and ripping off my golf shoes in exchange for something more comfortable.
What impressed me next was shocking, even to me. I really like the style. When you're standing over the ball looking down you see the ground, the ball, your club and your feet. If something isn't visually appealing, it's going to impact your swing. I've found the sneaker style shoe isn't as drastic of a change from the traditional golf shoe I am used to wearing. The style drew some attention from golfers I was paired up with through the various rounds but it's not often you see blue suede shoes on the golf course so it was to be expected.
If you're looking for a comfortable golf sneaker, look no further. The Kikkor Retro Breathe Golf Sneaker will provide all the comfort you can ask for while on the course and make your round more enjoyable. The only caution I have is they are water resistant, not waterproof. If it's going to be a rainy day, you may want to use a different pair.
It took me a while to get out of the traditionalist way of thinking and test a out a golf sneaker. If you're like me and have been unwilling to give something like this a try, alter your way of thinking and give these sneakers a try. The level of comfort and new style is something I'm happy to add to my golf arsenal and I think they will be a round for along time.
